The 1920’s EV Buggy

The Auto Red Bug, based on an earlier buckboard vehicle called the Smith Flyer, was manufactured in North Bergen, New Jersey, from 1924 to 1928. It was sold through retailers like Abercrombie & Fitch and FAO Schwarz. The vehicle was powered by two six-volt lead-acid batteries stored behind the seats and had an accelerator pedal and a brake, but no clutch or transmission. Sold for $325, the Auto Red Bug was popular with young people, as well as estate owners, resort guests, and farmers for traversing vast grounds.
