
ALPR Policy

The Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation (“the Museum,” “PAM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) may employ an automatic license plate reader (“ALPR”) system at various points of entry into the Museum parking facility located at 6060 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036. The purpose of such ALPR system is to read and store vehicle license plate information (“ALPR Information”). This ALPR Usage and Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) describes our use of this ALPR system and our collection, use, maintenance, sharing, and dissemination of ALPR Information through this system.
Our Authorized Purposes for Using the ALPR System and Collecting ALPR Information
Our use of the ALPR system and collection of ALPR Information is limited to the following purposes:
To track the ingress and egress of vehicles into and out of our parking garage and verify the legitimacy of charges incurred by visitors of our parking garage;
To enhance your experience while visiting the Museum, such as, for example, by assisting in locating a lost vehicle;
To prevent unauthorized use of our parking facility;
To detect, investigate, and prevent activities that may violate our policies, be illegal, or otherwise impact the safety and security of our guests and/ or third parties; and
To support our fulfillment of applicable legal and regulatory obligations.
Authorized Access to ALPR Information
Internal Access
We limit internal access to ALPR Information to specific individuals who are authorized for such access and who have a legitimate business purpose for such access (“Authorized Personnel”). These Authorized Personnel include:
Select security personnel who may use such ALPR Information in connection with enhancing your experience while visiting the Museum, preventing unauthorized use of our facilities, or in connection with detecting, investigating, and preventing activities that may violate our policies, be illegal, or otherwise affect the safety and security of our guests and/or third parties; and
Select parking personnel who may use such ALPR Information in connection with enhancing your experience while visiting the Museum, preventing unauthorized use of our facilities, or detecting, investigating, and preventing activities that may violate our policies, be illegal, or otherwise affect the safety and security of our guests and/or third parties.
The title of the official custodian of the ALPR system responsible for implementing this policy is CFO. Our Authorized Personnel receive information security training addressing their handling of ALPR Information to help protect privacy interests and to comply with applicable laws. Individuals who have not been trained will not have access to ALPR Information. Violations of this Policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
External Access
We share ALPR Information with the third-party vendor providing us with the ALPR system (Flash Parking). We will not sell, share, or transfer ALPR Information to any other person outside the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation, except in the following limited circumstances:
To ensure the safety and security of our guests and third parties;
To protect our rights and property and the rights and property of our guests and third parties;
To comply with our legal obligations; or
In other cases only if we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law.
How We Monitor the Security of the ALPR System and ALPR Information
We monitor the ALPR system and our employees’ access to it and use of ALPR Information to protect the security of ALPR Information, prevent unauthorized access to such information, and to comply with applicable privacy laws.
Correcting and Retaining ALPR Information
When requested by an individual to verify ALPR Information in our possession, we will take reasonable measures to review ALPR Information to ensure it is accurate and correct errors where necessary. We retain ALPR Information for as long as necessary for the purposes listed above, unless we are informed that we must retain ALPR Information for a longer period of time in accordance with our legal obligations. We destroy retained ALPR Information when we determine it is no longer needed for the purposes described above.
Updates to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The date this Policy was last updated is provided below. The updated version of the Policy will be effective as soon as it is accessible.
