In the animated television series, a teenager named Speed Racer seeks to become the greatest racing driver in the world with the help of his friends, family, and high-tech Mach V race car. Among its many feats in the series, the Mach V is able to leap short distances and drive underwater. This fully operable interpretation of the cartoon Mach V was hand-built in 1999 by the company Speed Racer Enterprises. The company unveiled plans to build a series of 100 similar road-ready replicas based on front-engine Corvette platforms, but few examples were made.
