Evel Knievel’s Stutz D’Italia

The lavish Stutz was conceived by Manhattan businessman William O’Donnell and made use of Pontiac Grand Prix mechanical components and hand-crafted Italian coachwork designed by Virgil Exner. Stutz found favor with celebrities such as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Lucille Ball, and Liberace. This car was the only convertible built by Stutz and, at $100,000, the most expensive car in the world when it was introduced at the Beverly Hills Hotel in May of 1976. It was purchased by motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel, who later sold it to Las Vegas entertainer Wayne Newton.
