Riker’s Electric Roadster — One of the Oldest
This roadster is one of the earliest electric automobiles still in existence. It was built by Andrew L. Riker, a pioneer of electric vehicles and founder of the Riker Electric Motor Company in Brooklyn, New York. This car uses five batteries to power its Riker electric motor, and its steering is controlled by a tiller—a lever that uses torque to turn the wheels. It has four forward speeds and one reverse, as well as a hand brake. Andrew Riker later developed internal combustion engines for the Locomobile Company of America.
