1960 Chevrolet Impala “The Gonzo”

Quick Specs

  • Gonzo Family / Individual Display

Displayed in Gonzo Style

Jairo Gonzalez purchased the shell of this Chevrolet Impala for $5,000 in 2020, and in less than a year, it had been transformed into “The Gonzo.” Finding replacement pieces for a 1960 model Impala proved difficult, but ultimately Gonzalez was able to obtain over 100 necessary stainless steel parts, which were then hand-engraved by Jaime Castaneda. Engraved elements on the vehicle include the suspension, engine, and trim. Additional enhancements are the one-off steering wheel, bucket seats, and keyless start.

“The Gonzo’s” show setup is particularly notable and has won awards, including Outstanding Individual Display at Lowrider magazine’s Los Angeles Super Show in 2022 and Best Display at the 2022 Takeover Super Show in Anaheim. Decorated lit tiles under the car accentuate the engraved elements and highlight the painted undercarriage. Cameras capture these details, which are shown on video monitors. Mirrors under the hood reflect the engraved engine.
