Cruisin’ into the Sunset of New Mexico

In the 1980s, around the time that California was enacting a “cruising ban” (recently repealed in 2024), New Mexico was embracing lowrider vehicles and culture. Frank Arredondo was inspired by the first generation of lowriders in his Carlsbad, New Mexico, neighborhood. He got his start in the scene by building lowrider motorcycles before purchasing this 1965 Chevrolet Impala as the foundation for his first lowrider car. “Sunset 65” has received numerous Best Paint awards and, in 2021, was named Lowrider magazine's Classic Lowrider of the Year.
