Riding on the Coattails of the Ford GT
The GR-1 is a retro-styled supercar concept based on the 1964-65 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. Developed in under a year, it is one of several cars produced by Ford in the new millennium inspired by models from the brand's past. An initial clay model was followed by this fiberglass mockup, which Ford unveiled to the public at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. A functional prototype, built later for the 2005 North American International Auto Show, utilized the engine and chassis from the 2004 Shelby Cobra Concept while repurposing many parts from the 2004 Ford GT.
