This special-edition speedster variant of the SLR McLaren is one of only 75 examples produced to honor Sir Stirling Moss's victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia. Offered only to existing owners of the standard SLR McLaren, the Stirling Moss variant marked the conclusion of the car’s official production run—and, with it, the end of Mercedes-Benz’s and McLaren’s road-car collaboration, though their Formula One engine partnership continues to this day.

The design features a roofless speedster configuration, twin headrest cowls, and prominent side-exit exhausts. These features of the almost entirely revised carbon fiber bodywork not only distinguish it from the original SLR McLaren but also pay homage to the 300 SLR that Moss drove in the 1955 Mille Miglia, which he called "the greatest sports racing car ever built." The revised aerodynamics and engine that enabled a top speed of 217 mph made the Stirling Moss the fastest open-top vehicle in the world at the time of production.
