1927/c. 1928 Mercedes-Benz S/SS by Armbruster

Mercedes-Benz released the SS, short for “super sport,” in 1928 as the high-performance counterpart to the S. An extension of the S’s design, it featured a larger engine with two carburetors and a higher radiator. This example, originally built as an S model, was raced throughout the late 1920s, during which time it was sent to the Mercedes-Benz factory for conversion into an SS model. Once retired from the track, it was converted for use as a road car and rebodied by noted Austrian coachbuilder Armbruster with fashionable Art Deco–style bodywork.
