This work by Japanese-born, Los Angeles–based artist Hiro Yamagata is from his “Earthly Paradise” series. Based on a fully restored Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A, the convertible’s elegant lines, hand-built craftsmanship, and refined engineering provide the ideal complement to the vivid, hand-painted landscape with tropical elements that were drawn from Yamagata’s photographs of Fiji and his fascination with nature. By overlaying organic imagery onto a functional machine, he transforms a symbol of technology and industry into a rolling expression of harmony and beauty.
