The ‘MIN-E’ Cooper

An integral part of BMW’s Project-i involved converting 500 vehicles from its MINI brand to use AC Propulsion’s “tzero” copper-rotor induction motor and lithium-ion battery.  The vehicles were available for lease by private users in field trial programs around the world, on the condition that drivers participated in surveys and discussions about their experience. The program provided valuable information about the viability of EVs in the real world, with 71% of queried participants stating that they were more likely to purchase an electric vehicle after their experience with the MINI E.
