The Great Success of Mika, McLaren, and Mercedes.

Building on the success of McLaren’s earlier MP4-13, the construction of the MP4-14 was revised to include a shorter gearbox and a new chassis design that allowed for more efficient use of space.  Additional deflector panels mounted ahead of the rear wheels, and a lighter and more powerful engine, further distinguished the MP4-14 from the previous model.  Despite undergoing multiple adjustments during the 1999 season, the MP4-14, piloted by driver Mika Hakkinen, earned seven wins and captured the World Drivers’ Championship.
