Ultimate Performance, Ultimate Efficiency

In Formula 1, each team designs and builds its cars according to the “formula,” a set of regulations that change from season to season. A critical rule since 2010 is the ban on mid-race refueling, limiting each team to a maximum of 110 kgs (243 lbs) of fuel per race, thus encouraging the pursuit of efficiency to maximize the power extracted from a finite fuel supply. This has led to the creation of the most efficient automotive engines ever built and has fostered the development of regenerative power systems that capture excess heat and kinetic energy to charge the electric components of the hybrid powertrain.
