Cracking Clay
The Chrysler Lugano clay mockup was built at Chrysler’s Pacifica Advanced Design Studio in Irvine, California. It was the result of a design brief to create a Chrysler-branded two-seat sports car on the Plymouth Prowler platform. Seeking to convey an “elegant sportiness,” designer Kevin Verduyn drew inspiration for the design from the well-remembered 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR coupe. Like many design studies, the Lugano was never publicly shown but was part of an internal DaimlerChrysler styling exercise that was not developed into an operational concept car.
