Hill Climb Extraordinaire
In its competition debut, the fully electric I.D. R finished the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in 7:57.148, a time that broke the electric record by nearly a minute and the overall record by 16 seconds. Volkswagen designed the I.D. R for the famous hill climb’s high altitudes by minimizing weight and maximizing downforce with a flat streamlined chassis and large rear wing. As part of the automaker’s I.D. series, it features a unique high-performance powertrain intended to showcase the marque’s future all-electric production cars.
