The Very First EV Car of the Year
One of the most highly regarded commendations in the automotive industry, the “Car of the Year” title has been awarded by the Petersen Publishing outlet MotorTrend magazine since 1949. Highlighting key achievements and advancements in automotive design, the distinction is bestowed on a winning vehicle representing the current model year based on six criteria related to design, performance, and safety.
For the 64th iteration of the award, MotorTrend conducted a road test of Model S, driving it for over 313 miles of road loops and completing a 285-mile trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on a single charge. In 2013 the magazine named Model S “Car of the Year,” notably making it the first vehicle without an internal combustion engine to hold the title. This Model S P85 was flown to New York City where Edward Loh, editor-in-chief of MotorTrend, presented the award to Tesla CEO Elon Musk and designer Franz von Holzhausen
