Successful… Too successful.

From 1991 to 1993, the Eagle MKIII, built by Dan Gurney’s All American Racers, competed in the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class of the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) GT Championship. While its competitors mostly used V-8, V-10, and V-12 powerplants, the Eagle MKIII features a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine capable of up to 1,000 hp. The MKIII won 21 of the 27 races; its dominance led to the withdrawal of lesser-funded teams and is seen as a contributing factor in the dissolution of the GTP class after 1993.
