La Prima Ferrari

Debuting in May of 1947, the 125 S was the first car to bear the Ferrari name. Enzo Ferrari had been enamored with 12-cylinder engines since his time as head of Alfa Romeo's racing team. After World War II, when he set out to build a car with his name on it, Ferrari enlisted his former Alfa colleague engine designer Gioacchino Colombo to build a V-12 of just 1.5 liters to power it. The legendary Colombo V-12 would go on to power many Ferrari road and race cars, in displacements up to 4.8 liters, for more than 40 years.
