Arriving to the Show in Luxury

Town cars were intended for city use on formal occasions with a design that was a holdover from the horse-and-carriage era with the driver exposed while passengers sat comfortably inside. Owned by legendary actor Fred Astaire until 1950, this ultra-formal vehicle exemplifies this aristocratic approach to motoring. The Rolls-Royce engine and chassis has a custom-ordered body by prestigious British coachbuilder Hooper. Astaire purchased the car in London in 1928 while performing in the musical Funny Face and shipped it back to America at the end of the show’s run.
