Lightweight British Racing Pedigree

The GT version of the DB4 was unveiled at the 1959 London Motor Show with a shorter chassis, more powerful engine and lighter body that other Aston Martins of the day. Although the model was already ideal for endurance racing, Italian coachbuilder Zagato constructed a small series with specially designed bodies that were not only more attractive and better streamlined than the factory versions, but that reduced overall weight by 100 pounds thanks to the use of aluminum for select components instead of steel. While the majority DB4GT Zagato Aston Martins were sold to private race teams, a mere four were built specifically for street use complete with full bumpers and other road-going equipment.

The DB4GT Zagatos’ first track appearance was at the 1961 Goodwood Motor Circuit, where John Ogier's Essex Racing Stable fielded the two most famous versions, both of which were entered into the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
