The Mini Motors workshop series is a hands-on adventure for your kids (ages 7-11) to explore the world of cars. Join us on the first Saturday every other month from 9:00 am to 10:00 am for a journey filled with experiments, cool art projects, and a chance to explore the awesome car collection at the museum. The workshop is free with the purchase of museum admission.

About the Workshop
This half-day class will be taught by our team, catering to adults looking to learn the basics of automotive maintenance. Following the same structure as the Teen Auto Workshop series, one of our experienced mechanics will lead the class through understanding the basics of working on a car in a safe and careful manner.

About Pato O’Ward
McLaren's reserve driver for the 2024 Formula 1 season, Pato O’Ward, boasts an illustrious career spanning six seasons in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Hailing originally from Mexico and raised in San Antonio, O’Ward has garnered notable achievements, including clinching the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the Prototype Challenge class, securing victory twice in his class at the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona, and triumphing as a Prototype Challenge class winner at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Motorcycle Mary: Panel Discussion & All-Day Screening
About the Event
Join us at the Petersen Automotive Museum for an exclusive all-day screening of Motorcycle Mary, the untold story of legendary motorsports pioneer Mary McGee. Featuring stunning never-before-seen archival footage and stills, this documentary chronicles McGee’s fearless 30-year racing career, during which she shattered gender norms and mastered multiple racing disciplines.
The film will be screening all day, with a special panel discussion from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM featuring the creators of the documentary. Don’t miss this opportunity to dive into the incredible legacy of a true trailblazer in motorsports.

Calling all young innovators under 18! Are you passionate about cars and enjoy creating your own designs? This is your chance to shine! Our theme for 2025 is Celebrating Americana! We're seeking participants between the ages of 5-17 to create a scale car model or design sketch and enter into our contest! Participants will be divided into grade cohorts: K-3rd grades, 4th-7th grades, and 8th-12th grades. Participants must submit their entry form by March 1, 2025.

Teen Auto Workshop | 101 - EV/Hybrid Maintenance

About the Event
This half-day class features a mixture of classroom teaching and hands-on experience led by our trained mechanics in our mechanic shop. Students will learn about basic maintenance and how an electric or hybrid car runs. Topics include the basics of safety, tool recognition, basic diagnosis of simple problems, how to change a tire, and how to maintain the battery.
For those eager to share this knowledge with the next generation, the workshop invites participants between ages 15 and 19, offering a unique opportunity for young enthusiasts to delve into the world of automotive care. Guardians may accompany minors but can not participate in the workshop, and are free to explore the museum but may not leave the museum during the workshop. Admission not included with workshop.

Step into a world of whimsical wonders at the Discovery Center's Gingerbread Garage, running from December 16th to December 20th! Join us as a family between 11 AM and 2 PM and craft your very own gingerbread garages.
Unleash your imagination and build the gingerbread garage of your dreams, with all the supplies provided including candy, icing, and graham crackers. Our holiday helpers will be on hand to guide you through the sugary construction process, ensuring a positive experience for all ages.

About the Author
Nadine was among the first women in the U.S. to pursue professional drifting, competing in the Formula Drift Series from 2002-2006 with 14 sponsor-backed cars. As the founder of Drifting Pretty and a stunt double in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, she has championed women in motorsports. Inspired by her passion for empowering women, she wrote “Sachiko Goes Racing,” a children’s book that encourages kids to chase their dreams, no matter how unconventional. Today, she is an entrepreneur running a luxury portrait studio and accounting firm, while still enjoying drifting and spending time with her family.

About the Art Lessons

Using mixed media, guests will use the "art of the highway" to create beautiful pieces inspired by the landscape around them.

Graffiti knitting/yarn bombing is the art of using items handmade from yarn to create street art. Artists take their knitted items into a public place and install the piece in that public place. Guests will learn basic knitting patterns while learning about various graffiti knitting art pieces put around the world.

The Art of Stencil Making: this art lesson will teach guests different cutting techniques to achieve unique effects and designs on signs to create personalized art pieces.
