Start Earning Your Next Badge at the Petersen Automotive Museum!

Our experienced educators and museum staff lead scouts through immersive experiences designed to inspire curiosity and ignite a passion for all things automotive, while earning their badges.

The Petersen Automotive Museum is an approved badge program provider and a proud sponsor of Girl Scouts Greater Los Angeles.

Scout Program FAQs

  • For Girl Scouts, you can earn: 1) The Automotive Design Badge, 2) the Automotive Manufacturing Badge, 3) the Automotive Engineering Badge, 4) Mechanical Engineering Badge, 5) or Car Care Badge.

    If you complete our Automotive Engineering Series (which includes: auto design, auto manufacturing, and auto engineering) – you can earn a bonus badge, Mechanical Engineering Badge.

    We are an approved partner for Girl Scout programs.

    For Boy Scouts, we currently offer a Car Maintenance Workshop that could qualify you for the Car Maintenance badge. We are not currently affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. Please speak with your local chapter to verify if our program qualifies for your badge.

  • Our workshops typically last about 2 to 3 hours, however, our Automotive Engineering series and Car Care Workshop lasts about 3 - 4 hours.

  • You absolutely can! Please fill out the form below to request a booking day for a program/workshop.

  • Our programs cost between $10 - $25 per scout.

    Complimentary Admission will be given to Troop Leaders chaperoning a troop. Additional Parents/Guardians must purchase Museum admission.

Workshop Details

Automotive Engineering Series

Earn your Automotive Engineering badges at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Join us for a four hour workshop and earn three badges: Automotive Design, Automotive Engineering, and Automotive Manufacturing. Completing this workshop earns a bonus badge of Mechanical Engineering. Learn all about the design and manufacturing process while touring the museum then put your knowledge to the test by designing, building, and testing your own model car.

  • Our Automotive Engineering Series is approximately 4 Hours long.

  • $20 per scout including museum admission, troop leaders are free. Additional parent chaperones are $14

Mechanical Engineering Badge

Earn your Mechanical Engineering badge at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Join us for a two hour workshop to learn about how cars are engineered to be safer and faster. This workshop will explore the design process from start to finish culminating in you building your very own prototype. Race your friends to see whose car can go the farthest and fastest.

  • Our Mechanical Engineering badge course is approximately 2 Hours long.

  • $10 per scout, includes museum admission, troop leaders are free. Additional parent chaperones are $14.

Car Care OR Maintenance Badge

Earn either the Car Care Badge (Girl Scouts) or Car Maintenance Badge (Scouts of America) through this half day automotive maintenance workshop at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Utilize our lesson plans and resources to learn about the various systems that the car needs to function, then join us on-site with a professional mechanic to learn the basics of automotive maintenance such as changing fluids, changing a tire, and diagnosing common problems. 

  • Our Car Care or Maintenance Badge classes are approximately 4 hours.

  • $25 per scout, includes museum admission, troop leaders are free. Additional parent chaperones are $14
