Low Profile: Crafting Lowrider Perfection, Michael Tovar

Published on June 4, 2024

“We created a Legacy”

The name “Tovar” is synonymous with excellence in the lowrider community. Multiple members of this family from Hawaiian Gardens, California, have contributed to this reputation, establishing them as respected and widely admired creators of custom cars. The Tovars are known for their pristine and minimalist builds, mostly devoid of the more-is-more aesthetic found on many lowrider cars. They focus on the details—clean bodywork, a nice set of tires, and an impeccable paint job. But the real trademark of a Tovar Restoration vehicle is its ground-hugging stance because minimizing ground clearance requires major body modifications. His car “Wanted 37” won the Best Bomb and Lowrider Excellence Awards at Lowrider magazine’s 30th Anniversary Tour event at the San Mateo County Expo.
