To ensure accuracy to the performance-tuning scene, Fast Saga filmmakers styled the franchise’s cars as reproductions of real-world vehicles created by notable customizers. This Mitsubishi Evolution, or “Evo,” built by performance aftermarket parts supplier APR Performance, was selected by filmmakers as the model for the drift car that Han (Sung Kang) gifts to Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Production built 10 replicas, but all were destroyed during filming, making this vehicle the only surviving “Tokyo Drift Evo.” This original vehicle recently underwent a full period-correct restoration by its current owner, JDM tuner and YouTuber Dustin Williams. For filming, the APR Performance Evo’s design was modified with new sponsor decals and retrofitted with a front grille and bumper to make it resemble the earlier Evolution VIII model.
