Filmmakers cast a real-life tuned Nissan 240SX owned by Helen Jasmine Cho as the model for the 240SX driven by Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) in The Fast and the Furious. Reflecting Letty’s skill and social standing in the street-racing community, the popular tuning model was fitted with genuine JDM parts and a Nissan SR20DET engine in place of the original KA unit. It was depicted with a NOS (nitrous-oxide system) in the film. Graphic designer Troy Lee and Universal Studios’ art department created the car’s dramatic graphics. This example was driven in the “Race Wars” drag race scene. After featuring in the “Race Wars” scene in The Fast and the Furious, this 240SX was repainted orange for use as a background car in 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious. The current owner located the car after nearly 20 years in storage and restored it to its original on-screen appearance.
