The Petersen Automotive Museum is pleased to introduce one-day workshops focusing on the care and maintenance of automobiles. Join us for the Detailing Workshop, where passion meets precision. Through hands-on sessions led by industry experts, explore the latest techniques and cutting-edge products that help bring your car to life.

FAQS

Participating in the Detailing Workshop Program is always free. However, admission into the Museum is required.
Our Detailing Workshop program is hosted in the Workshop area of the Museum located in the Vault.
Our detailing workshops are available to all ages 15 and up. Parents and Guardians are welcome to participate; however, they require an additional sign-up. If you choose not to participate but are bringing someone under 18, you must remain within the Museum during the entire program.
All detailing tools and products will be provided during the course. Please wear pants or jeans, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toed shoes.
Classes are limited to a select group of individuals for a better one-on-one experience. Signing up and filling out the form is required to participate in the workshop.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN()

Proper Wash Techniques

Our first step

Participants learn how to safely wash a vehicle while minimizing swirl marks and scratches. Training covers the two-bucket method, foam cannons, and proper towel selection and usage for an effective, paint-safe wash.

Decontamination

Don't scratch the paint!

This section introduces techniques for removing embedded contaminants that regular washing can’t eliminate. Participants learn how to use clay bars and chemical decontaminants to prepare surfaces for polishing and protection.

Paint Correction & Protection

A brief introduction

A brief introduction to the basics of paint correction using dual-action polishers, pads, and compounds. Instruction also covers applying waxes and sealants to enhance gloss and protect the vehicle’s finish.

Exterior Detailing

Beyond the Paint

This section covers thorough exterior cleaning beyond the paint. Participants learn how to clean wheels, tires, wheel wells, and engine bays, with select courses also introducing headlight restoration techniques..
