Six Cylinders

The 1972 Benelli 750 Sei (Italian for “six”) was the first production motorcycle with six cylinders, predating the Honda CBX by six years. Alejandro de Tomaso, creator of the Pantera sports car, purchased Benelli in 1971 and introduced the Sei to compete against Japanese manufacturers. The Sei used a fourcylinder Honda CB500 engine design, reengineered with two more cylinders. In 1979, Benelli offered the larger displacement 900 Sei with an updated design including a small fairing.
