1969 Porsche

917K Gulf Weyer

Minimum Drag; Maximum Speed

This Porsche factory team 917 won the maiden race for the iconic 917 model in August 1969 at Österreichring, driven by Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens. Over the winter, its slippery but unstable long tail body was transformed into a “short tail” 917K (“K” for kurz, “short” in German) for the 1970 season. The aerodynamically improved car was run under the direction of John Wyer with Gulf Oil sponsorship in the 1970 and 1971 seasons. This Porsche has been driven by endurance racing giants such as Brian Redman, Jo Siffert, Jackie Oliver and Pedro Rodríguez.
