Type 23A Kombi
Volkswagen’s second model, the Transporter was introduced in 1950 and served as the basis for a wide range of panel vans and trucks with varying window, door, seat and cargo configurations. Short for the German word kombinationskraftwagen (“combination motor vehicle”), the space-efficient Kombi featured removable middle and rear seats for carrying cargo. A California car, this Kombi was originally delivered new to Universal Motor Cars on Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles.
