Schafer 2001 Twin Engine Dragster "Flathead Jack"

Flathead Jack Schafer earned his nickname as a teenager racing and building flatheads, as well as Hemis and small-block Chevys. He raced in Northern California from 1950-1968. After that he went on to start “Flathead Jack” Engine Company until 2018 when he retired. 

This nostalgia dragster is the fastest flathead in the world. It has an 8 second E.T. (Elapsed Time) and numerous speed awards including first in class and fastest E.T. It also won best engineered car at the Grand National Roadster Show out of 610 cars. 

Features:

  • Two flathead V-8 engines each 526 HP for a total of 1052 HP
  • Sixteen 11” chrome Hiborn injector stacks and Offenhauser-made solid cylinder heads.
  • Engines featured a Hanks Crank which weighed 750 pounds and cost $14,000. 
  • Two fuel systems. It took 15 years for Schafer to figure out how to get the two systems to work together and get the car to run. 
  • Runs on 94% nitrous oxide. 
  • 180 inch wheelbase and it weighs 1700 pounds. 
  • The body work was done by Art Hemsel who also did the body of the 1967 AMBR winner “Alien”. 
  • The paint was done by Bazel Platte. The colors are Mercedes-Benz silver and Folk Stone Grey (a classic 39-40 Ford color)
