Tell Us Your Story:Growing up in New Jersey I was a Mustang fanatic and owned several late model GT’s. When my wife and I moved to Southern California from New Jersey one of the first things we set out to do was find a classic Mustang. What better way to adjust to the southern California lifestyle. We found a Wimbleton white coupe with a red interior in Costa Mesa, Ca.
The owner had neglected the car but over all she was in good shape. He was just looking to get rid of it. We picked up at a very reasonable price. It was not until I really started to work on the car that I began to understand what we had. I purchased a Mustang restoration book which deciphered the codes on the door plaque for me. That when we found out we had a true California Mustang.
She was built on January 25th,1965 at the San Jose, Ca. Ford plant. Very early in production. Delivered to Mel Burns Ford in Long Beach, Ca. and we purchased it from the original owner in Costa Mesa. We had heard that in early production ford was using up Ford Falcon components for the Mustangs. Our car was so early in production that when the electrical was being redone I had removed the Mustang cap on the steering wheel. Underneath the Mustang cap was a Falcon Sprint embossed logo. I still have that original piece on display on my workbench.
Since restoring her she has won over 30 awards and trophies all around Southern California.
