Volunteers Needed!

We here at the Petersen believe the car is: a work of art, a shaper of cultural identity, a marvel of technology, and a revolution in history. In short, we believe the car is more than four wheels and a transmission. Do you? If so, come help us explore the history of the automobile and its impact on American life and culture by joining the volunteer team!

MUSEUM EDUCATION

The Museum’s Education Team seeks enthusiastic, outgoing, and dedicated people to take on one of the following education roles:

Gallery Interpreter- Go on a journey of discovery with museum visitors as they experience the 25 brand new Petersen galleries. Chat. Share car stories. Ask questions.  Make connections.  And explore the art, industry, and history of the car together by engaging guests in conversational learning.

Discovery Center Assistant- Engage with families as they explore the hands-on experiences inside the Cars Mechanical Institute Discovery Center, designed through a groundbreaking partnership with Disney / Pixar.  Help them learn more about the science behind cars, design their own personalized race car, or get inspired at one of the art and design stations.

School Visits Educator –  Take students on a journey of exploration by facilitating fun, hands-on, and interactive educational experiences at the brand new Petersen Automotive Museum. Partner with fellow volunteer educators to lead gallery talks, science and engineering demos, arts and crafts activities, and so much more for k-12 students visiting on a field trip.

LIBRARY & ARCHIVE

In addition to historic vehicles, the Petersen is also home to a diverse collection of library and archive materials including monographs, periodicals, brochures, postcards, photographs, and other ephemera that document the long and fascinating history of the automobile.

The Library Team seeks dedicated volunteers who can dive deep into the history of the automobile and its associated cultures (motorsports, customs, hot rods, etc…) by researching and documenting the content of historic photographs. Photos that have appeared in premier publications like Hot Rod, Motor Trend, Sports Car Graphic, and Rod & Custom need you to identify the people, cars, locations, events, and more that appear in them!
